Astoria – Gold beach

Astoria (OR) – Gold Beach (OR) – 515Km

The Oregon coast is finally here. It is now one year that I wanted to come here. The damn weather along Hwy101 is not cooperating at all. The fog is everywhere and the temperature is taking a big hit.
At my first viewpoint stop, I met another 1200GS rider. We wave to each other, and it is through several other meeting and finally some chat that we end up riding for a while together. Mike is from Virginia beach and has shipped his bike to Salt lake city. He has been on the road for about a week, and he has been through some of the road I rode over in early May, including Lolo pass, rattle snake canyon, and Hell’s canyon area. So we decided to share a motel room in Gold beach to share some stories and experience.
It was a really long day in the saddle, with some pretty boring stretch in my opinion. Cops and speed zones were everywhere. Oregon has some 25Mph school zone in effect at ALL times. Duh ! Pretty annoying, but we made it through unarmed. Some stretch of Hwy 101 are really nice when not in the fog, and some twisties are really cool.
The last few miles north of Gold Beach were spectacular as the sun was settling down.
