Canyonland and Arches National Parks

So the legend is that the month of June is the driest month of the year in Moab. We can confirm tonight that this legend is bogus. It is not hot at all, and the entire day, we had the feeling to play cat and mouse with some menacing clouds. we managed to stay dry but it created a feeling of urgency this morning.

Well this is actually a good thing, because first thing first this morning was to set the bar high and attempt the Shaffer trail. Bikes got dumped pretty quickly, and a toe got more than it bargained for when it it a hidden rock on a pile of dust.
But the reward and the feeling of achievement for all of us surpassed all the challenges.
We had an absolute blast on that trail and it is surely embedded in our memories for a while.

After a good lunch we went back on the paved road this time. We followed the Colorado river, but after the morning scenery we quickly turned around to go visit Arches NP. I was excited to be back on the scene of the murder of my beloved nikon Coolpix 5700 at the balancing rock car park. But also I finally saw the rest of the park. And my new favorite has got to be the double arch. What an amazing site.

  1. Hi,
thank you for this nice pages and good photographs.
I’ve ordered such an cycle like you and it seems I am in the same sort of development (overcoming my fears of motor-cycling now; ordered one; starting my adventures this summer with southern France) like you were … so … keep on riding and let the good spirit run too. All the best – from biker to biker
