Avon to Durango

Avon (CO) – Durango (CO) – 573Km

Okay, last night was the final straw. I have a bad feeling. A bad karma is getting over me. I am making some bad decisions, and I am choosing the wrong locations and roads. The camera troubles, and bikes reparations are taking over me. Its time to go home. So today I am going to make it to Durango in the southern part of the rockies, because so many peoples told me about the town of Ouray and the vista in that area. yesterday I had in my opinion only a sample of the rockies down here. After that, end of the trip, I will get back to vancouver by the shortest and fastest way possible.
So off I go and today I went over ‘Deception pass’ and down into Aspen. Good fun road. A bit bland in locations but good stuff overall. Passed Aspen there is a stupid freeway, which is probably heaven for the cops. On this road at some traffic light I meet up 2 brothers, and they lead me to a brilliant artsy village called Redstone. The lodge might look the most expensive place around, but trust me the lunch was excellent and prices were totally OK. Actually theses guys offered me lunch. Thanks to you guys. It looks like peoples coming from pennsylvania are really nice.
Then I was on my own for the rest of the day until Durango. So yes it was totally worth it to go back south and see the Ouray/Silverton areas. The roads were beautiful al the way, and now I really notice the trees colors. The locals explain that I am 1 or 2 weeks to early.
A cool pub with a special burger night concluded the day. This pub had so many mountain biking banners it was surreal. the waiter gave me a quick tour and some explanations. Turns out that durango is the US capital for mountain biking. A bit like vancouver for Canada. Numerous champions and championships down here.

How much junk can one carry on a bike? Silly…
