Pikes Peak day

  • by

Colorado Springs (CO) – Avon (CO) – 433Km

Up early. And off to climb Pikes Peak without breakfast. The weather is really nice. Not a cloud. If I don’t wipeout on the dirt this is going to be great.
At the gate the warden explain that there is some gust of winds up there and that it is pretty cold. No worry the electric vest is on, and off I go. The road is pretty narrow to start with and widens later. Pass a couple of cars and the road is all mine. This is really amazing. The dirt is not that bad at all. The maintenance is obviously top notch. Well yeah there was some gust of winds and I don;t know why but they seems to wait for the worst spot to appear like an hairpin.
I make it to the top by 9:00. It is incredible up here. Cold as hell (Ice one the floor /snow on the banks) but really beautiful day. The decent was free of slides or scary situation. I really took it easy. time to get a shower and packed up and I am off again. Now through the rockies. It really gets interesting once I get back in the valleys near Vail. Copper mountain was probably the highlight of the ride.
Tonight i got really freaked out by the town of Vail. A bit like whistler, but not as pretty. from the valley the ski domain looked unimpressive but I am no judge of this.
So I decide to head out to a little town called Avon, and find a cheapo place to stay. It is getting pretty cold round her at night. Damn the all area is expensive. It is a total rip-off. Stay away boys and girls stay away.

Pikes peak is the target dead ahead.
