Secondary roads to Grenoble

  • by

Second day on the roads to Grenoble. Still avoiding any kind of highway until the end. In fact I had to do the last hour on one, as time was not sufficient to let me go all the way in a timely fashion for my host family.

The roads were simply amazing and I had little time to stop for pictures as I was having way too much fun. Today for the first time I tried to imagine what would have happened if I had discovered motorcycling while still living in France. There is no doubt that the road network over here is vastly more diverse than in the Pacific Northwest.

The one highlight of the day was without contest the first time for me at the Garabit Viaduct which was built by Gustave Eiffel himself. A very nice piece of engineering.
Later in the afternoon I was stopped by a Bike race coming the opposite direction. This was rather fun. Not a single cop in sight. The entire security was provided by Motorcyclists. Pretty impressive display of equipment and skills.
